Butch in Progress

Two gay girls with too many issues, DVDs and shared interests trying to out-smart/out-do/out-butch each other... constructively

Hair Crush: Cate Blanchett

[B] Oh I definetly do have a new lesbian hair crush. Ok it’s not that new, at least she isn’t, … Howsoever I’m still struggling for words to describe how ecstatic I am about Cate Blanchett with short - shorter - shortest hair.

Undesirable Characteristics in a Series (A “Lip Service Recap” of Sorts)

[B+K] For the review of the last couple of episodes of Lip Service final season Season Two (sorry for keeping you waiting - life somehow got in the way of dyke drama… usually it’s the other way around, isn’t it), we are joining forces. Seriously, what kind of a friend would I be, if I let [B] suffer through this alone? On that note: what kind of lesbian are you, if  you write lists like this one from episode 5?

"You know what? Shorty, you kinda look like her. Only Gabrielle wasn’t so butch." [B] Meg about Gabrielle when she sees her and Xena after they were sleeping for 25 years. (episode 20, season 5 Livia)

Lip Service Season 2 Episode 3 - Recap

[B] Since Lip Service is back for season 2 there’ve been a hell lot of surprises and twists and episode 3 continues with this tradition. But first things first…

After Cat’s death the remaining characters still try to find their way back to a normal life. Tess thinks about going back to work, Sam sees a therapist to be cleared for work and Frankie … well Frankie does what she does best: feeling sorry for herself. It’s a call of her mother, who wants to meet with her that get’s her out of bed. Don’t know how you feel about this, but I’m bored and Frankie herself seems to be too.

Lip Service - Frankie and her mother

What’s this storyline with my mother all about anyways? I don’t get it and I’m bored … so maybe I should skip town.

Berencie Abbott (1898-1991) - Lesbian Portraits

[B] It’s monday night and therefore most definetly time to introduce another lesbian photographer. Right?

Berencie Abbott is most known for her photographs of New York’s cityscape, but especially in the context of queer history and aesthetics her portraits of lesbian and bisexuals left a lasting impression. The portraits here show Gwen Le Gallienne, Jane Heap (my personal favorite), Janet Flanner, Solita Solano and last but not least Sylvia Beach.

To fulfill everyones desire for lesbian gossip, Berencie Abbott had a relationship with Thelma Wood and Tylia Perlmutter.

Lip Service Season 2 Episode 2 - Recap

[B] I’m desperatly looking for a beginning to start this recap of Lip Service’s last episode, since I’m still not sure what to make out of it. It was shocking, unpredictable, entertaining, at least at the beginning, kinda frustrating and intense, all at the same time.

So let’s try to start at the beginning. It’s Cat’s birthday and Sam, still totally in Love prepared this beautiful breakfast only to top by the designer purse, she got for Cat. This could be a lovely morning, if Cat’s head wasn’t already in bed with Frankie. Already at this point I’m still very annoyed with the whole Cat and Frankie are meant to be storyline. Anyways what follows is one of the few entertaining sequences of season 2’s second episode.

Lip Service - Sam and Lexy

Lexy and Sam. The new perfect couple. Maybe we should already start calling them Saxy (Probably the best shipping-name ever, and you’ll have to thank [K] for that). And I definetly need to figure out how it is possible to be that cute, if you’re almost not able to breathe anymore. Oh and best thing ever we now definetly know Lexy does fancy Sam.

Pulp Cut Attack

[K] I never would have expected there actually is a way to make pulp novel covers even more entertaining … but innovative cutting and deep focus seems to do the trick (I’m tempted to make a film-nerdy Citizen Cane joke, but I guess that’s now why you’re here.) Can I make a request for a cut-out-version of Satan was a Lesbian?

“Lost Girl” Season 3 - Wishful Thinking

[B+K] Our first symptoms of withdrawal have settled in, the first spoilers for Season 3 are out, the first week of shooting the new episodes is already behind us… so while the time to actually influence what’s ahead of us has certainly passed, it’s never to late for some wishful thinking to pass at least some of the time until the return of our favorite Succooby Gang:

They have a considerably better fashion sense than the original Scooby Gang…

Lip Service Season 2 Episode 1 - Picspam Recap

[B] A tiny little picspam recap with alternative dialogues for all you other fangirls out there.

Lip Service - Lexy & Tess

Imagined Dialogue:

Oh you and I do have so much in commen and on top of all that you’re gorgeus, let’s make out … Fuck I totally forgot I already do have a girlfriend. Maybe next episode? I’m sure we will break up till then.

Lip Service - Sam and Lexy

I’m hot, you’re hot … let’s be hot together!

Lip Service - Cat can't leave Sam

Cat: I can’t leave Sam?

Frankie: Yeah, you told me that yesterday.

Cat: We could still see each other. If you want me this is the way you can have me untill I’ve worked out what to do.

Seriously, I’m still very confused by the new Cat.

Oh and last but not least, one for the hot cop. Gorgeous as always.

Lip Serice - Sam Murray

Lip Service Season 2 Episode 1 - First Thoughts

[B] It’s done … Lip Service is back! And here are my very subjective first thoughts on tonight’s new, season 2 starting episode…

Cat & Frankie - Lip Service Season 2

  • What the hell happened to Cat? In Season 1 she’s introduced as this tidy, organized, nervous, hurt and very accurate woman who is now doing drugs during work, drinking way to much and sleeping with Frankie and Sam? Hmm I think there might be some problems with character continuity … Sarah & Lee kind a sum it up with their tweet “What a Cat-astrophe.”
  • I’m probably not the only one who’s already a big fan of Lexy (Anna Skellern). And since Cat seems to no longer fancy a monogamous relationship there might be a chance of Lexy and Sam hooking up. I’d love that … awesome pic spam is on its way.

Lexy - Lip Service

  • Tess still is very entertaining eventhough she doesn’t like soccer.
  • I was kinda irritated by Frankies hair thought it were better in Season 1 and since I’m still playing for Team Sam I probably shouldn’t talk to much about her.

A more serious and detailed review might be up as soon as I do have the chance to rewatch the episode. Till then let us know what you think.

Heather Peace - Better Than You Music Video is online

[B] Lesbians around the world are getting very excited to hear Heather Peace’s first studio album, which will be released on May 21. Since today the music video for the first single from the album Better Than You is online.

If you follow this blog you already know that my inner fangirl is totally in love with Heather Peace, so yeah I love the song and am really impressed by Heather Peace’s beautiful singing voice. But, and I’m really sorry that I have to say this, the video sucks! Don’t get me wrong seeing Heather in front of a camera is most definetly always a good thing, but this video could use a better concept, a better camera operator and a better editor.

"It’s not like I was planning anything exotic, you know.
The trained seal does most of the work."
Laurie in “Like A Virgin” (Ellen, 5.9.) in reaction to Ellen chickening out before their first time together - aka: lesbian sex jokes on primetime TV! [K] Probably the most memorable line of the whole series (outside the Puppy-episode) and further testiment to the fact that Jane Espenson should write diaoluges for lesbian character everywhere.
